Thank you Edelweiss for an E-copy ARC of this book! I enjoyed that Avery wasn't your typical YA main character。 She kept her focus on the investigation into her family rather than the boys who constantly surround her。 Overall this book will be well loved, especially by those who like mysteries with a little romance。 Thank you Edelweiss for an E-copy ARC of this book! A fun, fast-paced sequel -- I just wish there had been a preface with a recap from the first book because honestly I kind of forgot what happened。*Thanks to Edelweiss and the publisher for providing an e-galley in exchange for an honest review。

Thank you to Edelweiss+ and the publisher for the reviewer's copy of The Hawthorne Legacy by Jennifer Lynn Barnes!2。5 starsUnfortunately, my feelings about this book were similar to my feelings about the first in the series。 I felt it was too convoluted and there were too many Hawthorne boys。 To this day, I still cannot really tell them apart。 Which one does she like? Deborah,
I had been so excited to get this ARC, and I wish I enjoyed the book。 I truly want to offer helpful comments。But I stopped reading 178 pages in。 I made it halfway。 And I just couldn't take it anymore。The most important part of the story is the two love interests and how special and unique each boy is。 Romance is。。。 fine。 It's not my favorite, but it happens。 The problem here is that the romance is the center of a story I genuinely thought would be a mystery。 It's not。 It's a romance with occasio I had been so excited to get this ARC, and I wish I enjoyed the book。 I truly want to offer helpful comments。But I stopped reading 178 pages in。 I made it halfway。 And I just couldn't take it anymore。The most important part of the story is the two love interests and how special and unique each boy is。 Romance is。。。 fine。 It's not my favorite, but it happens。 The problem here is that the romance is the center of a story I genuinely thought would be a mystery。 It's not。 It's a romance with occasional puzzles, about two deeply, tragically, sexily damaged boys (dramatic gasp)。 I've enjoyed every other one of Barnes's books but this one is beyond tedious。 I don't want to rate it one star, so I'm not rating at all。 。。。more

Thank you so much Edelweiss for giving me this E-arc , It was just as addicting as book 1, but have a few thoughts about that ending。 4。5 star! RtC
Aashi,
I don’t know why I heard rumors that this book was a disappointing sequel to The Inheritance Games。 It definitely was not, and I would even argue that it was far superior to the original。 I loved the way the conflict between Avery, Jameson, and Grayson was written and I think this was the only time I have ever been conflicted about where I stand with a love triangle。 The plot itself was a little hard to follow but it was intriguing enough that I couldn’t put the book down。

Audrey,
Thanks to Edelweiss for the digital ARC。 Generally, I never expect the sequel to be as good as the first book; however, this was definitely the exception。 It had all of the adventure, romance, and mystery of the first book but with a heightened emotion。 Loved it。
chloe,
This kept me guessing! The plots twists were good and the mysteries were actually hard to figure out and were earned when solved (unlike times where characters are just dumber so the one with common sense is hailed as a genius)。 Personally I’m still stuck on the riddles and am truly impressed by Barnes’ mystery-weaving skills in both books and the fact that she doesn’t give us a “gimme”。 Xander Hawthorne, as always, is the best character with his remarkable wit, and I adore Avery and Jameson。

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 wow。 ok, here goes。what i liked was the first 80% of the book; it grabbed me and i was suffering every second i spent not reading。 there were so many things happening at once—revelations about toby's past, her mother's secrets, the two sisters' puzzle, and the boys' dads, tobias and toby hawthorne's games, and the drama happening in the present—that i was kind of lost for about half the book。 but i did still enjoy it, even though i confused about what they were talking about half the time。 maybe wow。 ok, here goes。what i liked was the first 80% of the book; it grabbed me and i was suffering every second i spent not reading。 there were so many things happening at once—revelations about toby's past, her mother's secrets, the two sisters' puzzle, and the boys' dads, tobias and toby hawthorne's games, and the drama happening in the present—that i was kind of lost for about half the book。 but i did still enjoy it, even though i confused about what they were talking about half the time。 maybe that's part of why the mystery is so enthralling。i knew there was something off about how they revealed that toby was [redacted] so early on。 there were so many plot twists?! i saw some of them coming, but the others? not at all。 the one revealed at the end was actually a bit disappointing because i was hoping (for avery's sake) that what she, along with everyone else, assumed was true。 but i guess it didn't really matter in the end。i didn't like the last 20%, though。 i was both overwhelmed and underwhelmed, if that’s even possible。 it was so confusing and the ending felt rushed。 they also didn't say anything about what happened to toby after the incident。 this was by far the most complicated part of the story, in my opinion, and i had to stare at a wall and try to absorb it all for a few minutes before picking up where i left off。i really hoped this would have a satisfying end since the rest of the book was so captivating but i’m disappointed。 i feel like it would’ve felt less rushed if what they’d found out from the start was the actual truth since everything was already so hopelessly messy and complicated, even without the last big plot twist。edit: i thought about it and changed my rating。 :/ 。。。more

I'm so disappointed right now。 I know you can't like every book from your favorite authors but this book seems to be written by another author entirely。 Everyhing was so predictable and lame, all the revelations were just for shock value and changed after a chapter。 I will read the next book if it will be another, but my expectations won't be as high。 I'm so disappointed right now。 I know you can't like every book from your favorite authors but this book seems to be written by another author entirely。 Everyhing was so predictable and lame, all the revelations were just for shock value and changed after a chapter。 I will read the next book if it will be another, but my expectations won't be as high。 。。。more
